Join Our Junior League!

A tournament that's played in one section over five consecutive weeks. Each week, players meet to play the same opponent twice, then repeat with a different opponent the next week.

Week 1 – January 16
Week 2 – January 23
Week 3 – January 30
Week 4 – February 6
Week 5 – February 13
Week 6 – February 20 (if needed)

Wydown Middle School

6500 Wydown Blvd, Clayton, Missouri 63105

Registration:

Tournament registration will be from 4:00 pm to 4:45 pm each day. Players arriving after 4:45 pm may not be paired. Students who have already paid and registered online must still arrive by 4:45 pm to confirm they are playing that week. Parents and coaches should contact Howard Granok if they are delayed.

Entry Fee:

The entry fee is $15.00 per player for all five weeks of the tournament. Payment may be made by cash, check, or credit card on site or on the website

Eligibility

All students in kindergarten through grade 9 (K-9) are eligible.

Format

The tournament is played in one section over five consecutive weeks. Each player will play the same opponent twice each week. Time control is game in 30 minutes with a 5 second time delay. USCF ratings may be used for pairings but the tournament is not USCF rated.

Awards

Awards will be presented at the annual awards night

  • Team trophies will be awarded to the top team in each grade division: 9th and under, 8th and under, 6th and under, 5th and under, 3rd and under. Second and third place trophies may be awarded when there are at least 5 teams in the grade division. 

  • Individual trophies will be awarded to the top player in each grade level. Second and third place trophies will be awarded for grades with five or more players.

USCF Memberships

USCF membership is not required for this tournament

Ratings

This is NOT a USCF rated tournament, but United States Chess Federation ratings may be used for pairing purposes.

Tie Breaks

We will use modified median, median, Solkoff, Sonneborn Berger, and cumulative.

Equipment

Players should provide sets, boards, and clocks. A limited number of clocks and sets will be available for use.

Sponsors

Each school must have either a sponsor or parent present. There will be a sponsors and parents meeting approximately fifteen minutes after the start of round one.
